Film Star & RED One Recieve Praise from Threetimes Productions

Film star recently received praise for it’s customer service and product quality for a commercial shoot for Studio Share. Creative Director of Threetimes Productions, Greg Croteau posts his praise for his collaboration with us and his work with the RED:

Three Times Productions has been around for a little under a year and already we’re getting known for highly-creative spots and marketing videos. As a new company, we’re dealing with lower budgets than normal. Since a lot of our stuff is destined for the web or internal use, like a lot of you, we’ve been making use of the incredible quality of current prosumer cameras. The HVX was our workhorse and gave us great results but as a company, we knew that we needed to step-up our game a little bit. We needed resolution, to put it simply. And where else do you go for that than the Red ONE?

We got a call from StudioShare.org asking us to put together two, one-minute short films for them to use as web commercials. We saw this as the perfect opportunity to use the Red.

While we now had the opportunity to use the camera, we still really didn’t have the budget.

Or at least that’s what I would have thought had I not known about Billy Mead and Film Star Rentals.

I called up Billy and was of course greeted with his usual excitement and enthusiasm. If you’re reading this blog, you know that his prices are good but if you haven’t met The Man, let me tell you, Billy’s a guy who really cares about you and your business. Whether you’re a freelancer or a production company owner, he wants to know you’re doing well, in this economy and beyond. Part of that is because he’s a good business owner who gives great customer service but the other part is because he just loves this industry, loves this town and wants to see it thrive.

I sent him my gear request (and he politely reminded me it’s far more convenient to order online… he was right and I’ll remember next time, dude.) The quote I got back was phenomenal. He understood that this was an opportunity for us and worked with us to make it happen.

The shoot went great, with only one or two hitches. And who was on the phone with me to smooth it out? Billy Mead. And I mean, instantly. Like, stepped-out-of-a-meeting instantly. And we were up and running again in moments.

The results speak for themselves. We’re going into meetings now with this Red material on our reel and people are bug-eyed… “What did you shoot this on?”

And these are people who’ve been doing 35mm commercials for years.

After shooting the Red, I’m confident in saying film’s over. This is the future.
